In a guest contribution for Die Zeit, Franziska Stärk points out that, with the exception of North Korea, no nuclear weapons state has conducted nuclear tests since the 1990s. Not only does the nuclear-test-ban treaty argue against renewed testing, but so does the danger that other states could use this as an opportunity to catch up with the technological lead of the US.
