Nuclear arsenals are growing, weapons are being modernized, and new nuclear possessors could enter the fold. The horizontal and vertical proliferation of nuclear weapons poses considerable risks. Nuclear disarmament, arms control, non-proliferation, and deterrence are therefore a key focus of our research. What injustices result from the possession of nuclear weapons for present and future generations? What risks are associated with the mechanisms of nuclear decision-making power? What would be the consequences of a renewed use of nuclear weapons, and how can the international community prevent this? How can verification contribute to a world with fewer nuclear weapons? How can nuclear weapons programs be terminated? Our team employs innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to address these and other research questions.
