Monday, 24 November 2025, 1:30–3:00 p.m.
IFSH Berlin Office, Reinhardtstraße 7, Berlin
The Berlin Office of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH) cordially invites you to the presentation and discussion of the recently published book Chinese Scholars and Think Tanks’ Constructions of China’s National Interest – Hidden Hand on Demand by IFSH Researcher Dr Sabine Mokry.
The book offers a nuanced perspective on foreign policy decision-making in the People’s Republic of China. It focuses on the role of Chinese scholars and think tanks under Xi Jinping and explores the conditions under which their expertise translates into political influence and foreign policy relevance. A key question examined is how German institutions engaging in dialogues with China can better consider the political roles and institutional access of their Chinese interlocutors.
We warmly invite you to join Dr Sabine Mokry for a discussion of these and further questions. The event will feature a commentary by Dr Angela Stanzel, Senior Associate in the Asia Research Division at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), and will be moderated by Dr Matthias Schulze, Head of the Research Focus on International Cybersecurity at IFSH.
Participation is limited. Please register by 21 November via this link. For questions, contact berlin@ifsh.de.
Further information on the book can be found here.
The event will take place in German.
